Puducherry is grouped under one of India’ seven union territories and lies towards the Southern part of the country. The Directorate General of Training of the Union Government of India’s Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship is the managing body of vocational education in the state. Across India, the skill-based programs are held at the Government-based Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and privately-managed Industrial Training Centers (ITCs).

As a result of India’s considerable percentage of the youth population having interest in technical training rather than continuing with traditional schooling, the Union Government of India launched the Craftsmen Training Scheme during the 1950s.

Moreover, there are a range of engineering and non-engineering trades that the candidates can avail. After course completion, the students can work in industries for fueling the state’s progress; and in turn, the nation’s too. Besides, they can earn their livelihood and improve their standard of living.

Operating at the national level and state level are the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) and State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT); jointly, they conduct the trade programs.

By enrolling in the NCVT trades, the aspirants can acquire the National Level Trade Certificates, following which they are eligible to apply for the national-level jobs; for the SCVT trades, the State Level Trade Certificates are given that is applicable for the state level opportunities.
