The managing body of vocational training in India’s Gujarat state is the Directorate of Employment & Training (DET) of the Department of Labour & Employment that functions under the Government of Gujarat.
For achieving the overall objective of bridging the gap of skilled labor resources in industries and providing a means of livelihood to the country’s youngsters, the government-run Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and privately-owned Industrial Training Centers (ITCs) were constituted across the country, as per the Government’s 1950s Craftsmen Training Scheme.
The conduct of the skill-based programs ensues with both the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) and State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT) working in unison. The NCVT is employed as the advisory body for operating at the national level; the SCVT has the responsibility of putting the NCVT’s policies into practice.
By enrolling in the trade courses, the students get technical training in the chosen trades (with the inclusion of both the engineering and non-engineering ones). The aspirants have an array of NCVT and SCVT trades to select from. The NCVT trade programs lead to the National Level Trade Certificate; and upon completing the SCVT trade courses successfully, the State Level Trade Certificates are awarded.
