In the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir (J&K), the Department of Technical Education (DTE) is the managing body of the state’s vocational training centers. For catering to the technical education needs of the country’s youth population, the Union Government of India formed a series of government-owned Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and privately-run Industrial Training Centers (ITCs) across the varied states of the country.
Moreover, the National Council of Vocational Training was appointed as the advisory body for conducting the trade courses and works at the national level. On the state level, the respective states have the State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT) that functions as per the given NCVT’s guidelines.
Aspiring candidates who are interested in pursuing vocational education have the option of applying to the NCVT or SCVT trades; these are over 150 trade programs that they can choose from. Nonetheless, to qualify, they must fulfill the eligibility criteria.
The students after successfully completing the trade programs can avail of jobs at both the national and state level. The National Level Trade Certificate that is awarded for the NCVT trades makes the pupils eligible to apply for jobs at the national level; for the SCVT trades, the State Level Trade Certificate is given that qualifies the pupils for the state-level jobs.
