In India’s Odisha state, vocational education is supervised by the Directorate of Technical Education & Training (DTET), functioning under the SD & TE Department of the Odisha Government. As per the guidelines of the National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT), which works at the national level, the State Council of Vocational Training (SCVT) of the respective states directs the technical centers on conducting the trade courses.
Vocational training is imparted via the Government-managed Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and the privately-funded Industrial Training Centers (ITCs); both are set up across the varied Indian states. Also, both theory and practicals are part of the trade programs; the former is 30% and the latter is 70%.
Several youngsters, in India, display more interest in learning vocational trades as compared to conventional studies. Hence, they are offered the option of enrolling in the ITIs and ITCs for building their careers in the chosen trades.
After completing the vocational courses successfully, the aspirants are awarded the National Level Trade Certificates (for the NCVT trades) and the State Level Trade Certificates (for the SCVT trades). The NLTCs make the candidates eligible for opportunities at the national level; the SLTCs, at the state level.
