Ways to Join Indian Army After Graduation

  1. CDS Entry: CDS or Combined Defence Services Examination conducted by UPSC is a way of recruitment in the Army through an exam that is held twice a year. The age limit for the candidates is 19-24 years. Only unmarried persons who have a degree from any recognized university or equivalent are deemed eligible for a written examination of 300 marks comprising English, General Knowledge and Elementary Mathematics. Successful candidates are then called for a week-long interview by a Services Selection Board which assesses a candidate’s aptness for a career in the Army through psychological tests. After the Medical test, they will (both Men and Women) enrolled in one of the academies i.e. Indian Military Academy, Air Force Academy, Indian Naval Academy and Officers Training Academy for pre-commissioned training. After successful training at these academies, young Men and women inducted to the Army.
  2. NCC Special Entry: NCC or National Cadet Corps is a voluntary association which recruits cadets from schools, colleges, and universities across India. Cadets are provided fundamental military training. The officers and cadets have no accountability for military service on course completion but are preferred over normal candidates through selections because of the accomplishments in the corps. Indian Army provides opportunity to cadets (Both Men and Women) of NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders having at least ‘B’ Grade qualification to join as Short service commission officer after training in OTA.
  3. UES Entry: UES or University Entry Scheme (Pre-Final Year) is a way of getting recruited to the Army for unmarried,  pre-final year Engineering degree course students who are in the age group of 19-25 years. Candidates get picked on the basis of their marks in and medical examination, fitness test, interview.
  4. TGC (Engineers): Technical Graduate Course entry scheme is another way of getting recruited to the Army for unmarried or married, BE and B.Tech appearing in finals or degree holders in the specified streams of engineering who are in the age group of 20-27 years. Candidates get selected twice a year by the examinations and interview before their one-year training at IMA.
  5. JAG: Judge Advocate General Entry (JAG)  entry is for law graduates to Indian Army. Indian Army issued a separate notification to recruit law graduates in Indian Army. Graduates with LLB or LLM degree in hand having registered with Bar Council of India in the age bracket of 21 to 27 years can apply to get enrolled in Indian army after training in Officer Training Academy.
  6. SSC Tech – Short Service Commission Technical entry is another way to Join Indian Army as Officer. Indian Army offers rewarding career as short service commission to engineers through technical entry scheme.
